David:
Gene’s post would probably not be as amusing to Pakistanis. The Pakistanis I’ve met are intelligent, hard-working, caring people — just like the vast majority of people in the world, whatever the color of their skin, their religion or their nationality. This post is in particularly bad taste given the catastrophic flooding that has recently occurred in Pakistan, leaving much of the country in the same kind of shape that southwest Florida is in now but without the resources to rebuild and recover that are available to Floridians. Of course Pakistanis who called a hotline in the U.S. might want to inquire why we seem incapable of effectively curbing our world-leading greenhouse gas emissions — the very thing that helps to put large, impoverished rural areas of their homeland under water.
Just my 2 cents.
Marc
P.S. Don’t get me started on making light of calls to suicide hotlines.
